SUCCESS SNAPSHOT
Carbon Neutral since 2020, Fifth Third Bank is among the largest money managers in the Midwest operating 1,100 full-service banking centres, and 2,500 branded ATMs, and reports $7.3B in lending and financing to renewable energy projects (towards$8B goal).
Fifth Third Bank achieved up to 25% energy savings monthly by digging deeper into the data from over 500 buildings all connected to one advanced analytics platform.
Since the Fifth Third team began operating with Switch’s Portfolio Benchmarking, it is now more efficiently pinpointing when and where to take action by studying visualizations and benchmarking dashboards.
Fifth Third’s Robert Woodall (Vice President, Property Technical Manager, Enterprise Workplace Services) desired to reach the next level of building management and knew the Company needed a more holistic view of its 1000+ building portfolio.
“Pulling reports manually was not very successful, and it was not very sustainable, either.”
Monthly tracking was falling off the to-do list. They were missing energy savings opportunities by doing reporting manually. HVAC data, utility bills and work orders, square footage, building characteristics and geographic info for each building all sat siloed, without standardization, and the infrastructure costs to centralize that data were out of the question.
“Switch Automation improved the data competency of our entire property management team. With the Switch Platform, we can spot trends in historical HVAC data to understand and optimize underperforming sites leading to 17-25% monthly energy savings."
Within weeks of integration, Robert and team quickly saw where they needed to focus. Using the Switch Automation Platform to host the data and centralize everything from separate sources cuts out the need for manual reporting.
And as a bonus, the property portfolio management team now has benchmarking and more accurate forecasting and planning for both regular maintenance and major improvement projects.
Fifth Third Bank is leading its industry in innovative building management, by going beyond standard reporting and looking to better understand Energy Star ratings.
“We are managing the HVAC systems and utility consumption for over 500 buildings that have our new building management system installed and in our peak month of June we saw a 26.4% energy savings just by monitoring, managing and performing the necessary repairs needed to optimize the HVAC equipment so they function at peak performance.”
